We are a small, family owned business and have years of experience in pleasure, sporting and commercial boating in the Hampton Roads area. The owner, Tim O'Brien is a retired naval officer and F-14 pilot. He has B.S. degree in aerospace engineering and applies practical engineering principles of design and manufacturing to each of our projects. Nick O'Brien has several years of experience as an engineer on tug boats in the local area and also has a USCG 100 Ton Masters license.
For projects requiring extensive work or with significant complexity, we initially generate computer models of the proposed work. This helps clarify communications with customers about what work will be done and how it will be accomplished. This also allows us to validate unique concepts and to preclude issues from arising during construction that may have been unforeseen otherwise. The models can also be used to generate toolpaths for precisely creating components on our CNC.
We can usually accommodate customer requests for specific materials to be used in construction. However, we do prefer to use composite core materials that offer superior structural and mechanical properties and are water resistant. We also tend to favor epoxy over polyester resins as the epoxy is significantly stronger, less water permeable and allows us to create stronger structures with less weight.
